Celtic’s assistant coach Chris Davies says Moussa Dembele feels it’s time to leave the Scottish club, but they haven’t received any formal offers so far.

Davies told The Scottish Sun: “He’s our player and we’re happy for him to be here. We know what he can do. But there is also an acceptance that maybe Moussa feels it is the right time for him to move on.

“And when a player feels that way, then, there is not an awful lot of point in stopping them. But nothing has actually happened yet, it’s been speculation.

“Here we are with nine or ten days to go and there’s been no formal bid. So we can only take it like that – and possibly stop focusing on that situation so much.”

Over the summer, the papers linked Dembele with a move to Arsenal, although there never seemed to be anything substantial in the rumours of a bid from the Londoners. If the Gunners are interested, clearly now is their chance to make a move.

Dembele struggled to find form in the second half of 2017. He only scored eight goals and provided three assists in 21 matches for Celtic. That might not sound so bad, but for a player who managed 41 goal contributions in 49 matches last campaign, it’s not particularly impressive either.

The 21-year-old still had his moments towards the end of the year though. The striker scored two goals in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, then one in the final. He only actually played 93 minutes in the whole tournament, but still scored three times on the way towinning the trophy.

Plus, he’s still such a young player, so you’d expect him to have some ups and downs. If an off-period in your career still involves scoring to win a cup final, things can’t be too bad. Arsenal could certainly do worse.
