Manchester City want to sign Arsenal-target Goncalo Guedes if they can’t land Alexis Sanchez, which is bad news for Arsene Wenger, as he plans for life without the 29-year-old.

In December, Paris United reported that Arsenal made contact with Guedes’ agent over a move next summer. But now, Don Balon claim Manchester City are trying to steal the deal.

Their main target is still Alexis Sanchez, who has contributed 10 goals in 17 Premier League starts this season, but Guedes is apparently their plan B. Either way, Arsenal lose out, which is nice.

The complication with Guedes at the moment is that he’s on loan with Valencia. His parent club are PSG, but he won’t return to them until the summer. There were reports last week that the Spanish club could look to make the winger’s deal permanent. PSG reportedly want at least £35.5m for the player, as they look to recoup some of their recent outgoings.

The 21-year-old has impressed fans in Spain so far this campaign. He’s scored three goals and provided six assists in 14 league appearances from the wing. Guedes played, scored and assisted with Portugal in November, so he’s impressing with them as well. It’s therefore perfectly plausible that Valencia might try to sign him up permanently.

But clearly they have a lot of competition for the Portuguese international now, so we’ll see what happens in the summer.
