Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal’s frontline is better than Manchester City’s, but is constantly let down by poor defending.

There’s a twenty-three point gap between Arsenal and City, but that hasn’t stopped Carragher from thinking Arsenal have comparable quality.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, the former Liverpool defender said that Arsenal’s trio was better than City’s.

“Arsenal’s front three are better than Man City’s front three, in terms of Sane, Sterling and Aguero,” Carragher said. “Some people may not agree with that but it’s certainly very close.

“You think of the performance tonight and in all those big games at home. But they still get let down by what is behind them. It’s the same thing we’ve been saying for years. The defending is so poor and basic.”

Perhaps, on paper, Arsenal’s front line has the same amount of quality as City’s. It’s also true that the trio of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexande Lacazette have performed well in big games this season.

Alexis has goals against Tottenham and Liverpool this season. Ozil has also scored against Liverpool, while Lacazette has netted against Manchester City and Manchester United. Between them, they have 19 goals in the Premier League this season.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t quite stack up against City’s frontline. Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero have 33 Premier League goals between this season.

If Arsenal’s front-line was as productive, we’d be able to compensate for a lacklustre backline. Unfortunately, whatever quality we have in attack is being countered by our poor defending.

The Gunners have conceded 28 goals in 22 games this season, picking up eight clean sheets.
