With Theo Walcott on his way to Everton this month, could Joel Campbell return to Arsenal as his temporary replacement?

We all know how much Wenger loves internal solutions when players leave, and how much he hates signing players in January.

With Theo Walcott completing a move to Everton, Arsenal need to replace him, as the Gunners simply don’t have enough goals in the current squad. Joel Campbell can play right-wing, so perhaps he could provide the answer.

According to reports, Real Betis are considering cutting Campbell’s loan short so they can sign someone in better physical condition. Unlike Arsenal, they need players for the first-team, so they can’t afford to gamble on the winger’s injuries.

It’s not exactly ideal for the Gunners to bring back a player who isn’t currently fit, but it’s an option. Campbell wouldn’t cost the club anything in transfer fees, and Wenger won’t have Walcott or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain asking for game time ahead of him.

Then, in the summer, Arsenal would have more time to find a proper replacement. If Campbell performs well and stays fit, he could yet be a regular in the first-team. Campbell has scored 26 goals and made 29 assists in his career so far.

Personally, I’m not sure it’s worth the risk, but from the club’s perspective I can see the logic. We’ll have to wait and see what Wenger decides.
