Arsenal have been dealt a blow as Malcom will remain with Bordeaux this transfer window, says the Ligue 1 club’s president Stephane Martin.

Arsenal and Spurs both seemed close to signing the Brazilian winger this month, but nothing came of the rumours. Now Martin says there’s no chance of that changing before January 31st.

He told French newspaper Sud Ouest (via talkSPORT): “There is no shadow of ambiguity, Malcom stays at Bordeaux.”

Over the weekend, Malcom added to his already impressive tally of goal contributions with a penalty against Lyon. That brings him to eight goals and six assists in 25 appearances.

Earlier in the window, when Arsenal looked likely to sell Alexis Sanchez and hadn’t brought anyone in, the media wrote that the Brazilian was a key target to replace him.

In the end, the Gunners brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan instead, and turned their attention to the centre-forward position. That doesn’t mean a deal is off for good though.

Arsenal could still use a winger who can beat a man with pace and skill. Theo Walcott left for Everton earlier in the window, while Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi are struggling for form.

Perhaps the Gunners will go back for a player like Malcom over the summer if that doesn’t change. For now, it seems like things are definitely on hold.
