Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang trained with Borussia Dortmund’s reserves on Saturday, according to reports.

Aubameyang has been suspended a couple of times this season already due to ill-discipline.

He was left out of Borussia Dortmund’s game against Wolfsburg due to failing to attend a team meeting.

Following that, he was left out of their squad for their most recent game against Hertha Berlin on Friday due to not being 100% focussed.

It remains to be seen if he’ll return to the first team soon, but for now, the striker is training with Dortmund’s reserves.

AFP claim the striker “trained hard” with them for an hour on Saturday.

However, it seems there is an innocent reason for this as Lewis Ambrose informed us:

The 28-year-old is clearly keen to prove Dortmund and manager Peter Stöger wrong after they claimed he’s lacked focus in training. His effort and tempo was apparently noticeably higher than it has been in recent days.

That may suggest he’s preparing for a return to first team action after Arsenal’s interest  distracted him.

Dortmund’s next game is against Freiburg on the 27th, so it’ll be interesting to see if Aubameyang returns to the squad or if he’ll continue to be left out.

Also on Saturday, the Gunners reportedly bid €50m (£44.1m) for Aubameyang, their first official offer. Dortmund apparently won’t accept any less than €60m (£52.9m) with some outlets claiming they want €70m.

For an opening bid, the two valuations aren’t particularly far apart, which bodes well.

As for convincing the striker to come to North London, Arsenal seem to have made great progress. Goal write that the Gunners have already agreed personal terms with the striker although this report should be regarded with some scepticism given BvB need to give Arsenal permission to speak with him.

The Gabon international’s former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan is on the verge of joining and the chance to play with Mkhitaryan and Özil must be appealing. On the pitch, Wenger’s side proved they aren’t a complete shambles in Sanchez’s absence by smashing Crystal Palace 4-1.

It all sounds very promising right now.

The only remaining concern is if Dortmund decide not to sell, even if Arsenal meet their valuation.

Aubameyang has a contract to 2021, so there’s no way the Gunners can force a deal over the line. Dortmund have already said they will welcome him back into the fold if he changes his attitude.
