Arsenal Women travel to Reading for their Continental Cup semi-final on Sunday, in the second clash of the season between the two sides.

The Continental Cup starts with a group stage before becoming a knock-out competition, and Arsenal and Reading were both in Group One South, so played each other earlier on.

It was actually the only match of the group stage Arsenal lost.

Former Gunner, Fara Williams, got both goals for the Royals in the 2-1 defeat and Arsenal will need to keep her quiet if they want to make the final.

Beth Mead scored the consolation goal that day.

Reading are struggling for form in the league, sitting in sixth place. Maybe this time Montemurro’s side will have the chance for revenge. The new Arsenal boss has only been in charge for two games so far, but reaching a final would help settle the team under their new management.

The manager told Arsenal.com: “It would be amazing to win a trophy in my first season. Obviously we’re in this game to win trophies, we’re in this profession to succeed and go all the way with whatever competition we’re in.

“So I think it’s important to have that winning mentality and I think it would be great to take home some silverware.

“Reading are a very good team with a lot of experience in key areas and are very stable, solid and organised. We have to approach the game with caution. But also we have our belief in the way we want to play and dictate, dominating from the start.

“Hopefully we can have a positive outcome from the game.”

The Gunners have won one and lost one under the Australian, beating Sunderland 3-1 in his opening game, but losting 3-2 to second placed Chelsea. The team were unlucky that day, losing late on to an own goal from Van Veenendaal.

Hopefully this weekend they can turn their fortunes round in the cup.
