With Alexis Sanchez gone and potentially two new players to fit in, Arsenal will have to tweak their formation.

Swapping out Alexis Sanchez for Henrikh Mkhitaryan wouldn’t be the most drastic change to the starting eleven.

Whether we’re playing 3-4-3 or 4-2-3-1, Mkhitaryan will slot in just fine on the left hand side of the attack, with Mesut Ozil on the right hand side or in the centre.

Things will be more complicated should we add Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the mix as well.

The striker used to play as a right winger but his goalscoring exploded when he started playing as a centre forward.

His career mirrors that of Alexandre Lacazette’s. The Frenchman also came through as a winger, but didn’t establish himself as a great player until he started playing centrally.

The issue Arsenal would have is playing the two together without putting one of them on the flank where they’d be less effective.

There’s the option of a 3-4-1-2, but that would mean we’d have to leave out of one of Ozil or Mkhitaryan.

Then there’s good old-fashioned 4-4-2, something that Wenger hasn’t used in years.

If we continue with the 3-4-3, I can only see Lacazette being left out.

Cech – Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal – Bellerin, Ramsey, Xhaka, Kolasinac – Ozil, Mkhitaryan – Aubameyang

If 4-2-3-1 is the way forward, then Lacazette could drop down to the left flank.

Cech – Bellerin, Koscielny, Musatfi, Monreal – Ramsey, Xhaka – Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Lacazette – Aubameyang

This is, of course, only in the event that Arsenal manage to bring Aubameyang to the club. Otherwise, Lacazette will continue as the first choice striker.
