At first, Daily Cannon Towers wrote off rumours that Arsenal could be signing David Luiz from Chelsea as rubbish, but now they’re gathering pace…

Arsenal were linked with Luiz earlier in the transfer window.

We need a centre-back, given our defensive fragility, and lack of personnel. Per Mertesacker retires at the end of the season, we never replaced Gabriel after he signed for Valencia in the summer and Laurent Koscielny appears to be on his last legs.

However, Arsene Wenger – and most fans – shrugged off the rumours.

We were also linked with West Brom’s Jonny Evans and that rumour appeared to have far more traction throughout January.

Until now.

First, reports linking Luiz resurfaced, then the bookies shortened their odds.

A source within a major bookmakers told us that their traders have been following events closely and cut the odds accordingly.

This suggests that the odds haven’t changed because people are betting on it, which is usually how it works, it’s down to the bookies’ reading of the speculation.

Now, the BBC’s David Ornstein, who’s very reliable, is suggesting that Arsenal could be signing Luiz as part of Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud deal.

The striker is set to complete his £17.5m move to the Blues any minute now.

Ornstein also claims we could sign Roma’s Kostas Manolas, who we’ve been heavily linked with since last summer.

Arsenal need a centre-back but… David Luiz?
