Arsene Wenger has denied that Arsenal have made contact with Bordeaux winger Malcom, despite Brazilian press labelling us as favourites for his signature.

Malcom has emerged as one of Arsenal’s reported top targets this January and could be a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

The Brazilian press are certainly excited about it. UOL have claimed that Arsenal are the favourites, and that they will meet with the player’s representatives this week.

When asked about the 20-year-old in his pre-Bournemouth press conference, Wenger denied that the club were close to signing him.

“He is a good player but nothing is happening,” Wenger said at his pre-Bournemouth press conference.

“We are not on that case at the moment.”

Meanwhile, it appears Tottenham are also keen on the player.

UOL mention that despite Arsenal being the favourites, Spurs will also meet with the winger’s representatives.

Malcom has been the stand-out player for Bordeaux this season.

He’s their top goalscorer with seven goals, and has performed well despite Bordeaux being 15th in Ligue 1.

UOL report that they’re expecting to sell him for £44.5m.

There’s certainly a lot of noise surrounding this one, especially from the Brazilian press.

We’ll soon find out if Wenger is just playing coy as usual, or if Arsenal really aren’t interested in signing him.
