Arsenal are reportedly hopeful that signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will convince Mesut Ozil to finally pen a new deal.

With just six months left on his Arsenal contract and the Gunners losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, Arsenal are presumably more desperate than ever to convince Ozil to stay in north London.

According to the Evening Standard, we’re hoping that signing Mkhi and Aubameyang will do so.

Although there was always a higher chance Ozil would stay at Arsenal over Alexis, he’s still not extended, and Arsenal reckon that by proving their ambition with quality additions, the German will want to.

The 29-year-old is also allegedly asking for £300k-per-week – over double what he receives at the moment (~£130kpw).

This is the part of the story that doesn’t quite hold up. With so many world class signings, I doubt the club will be prepared to fork out that much money for the playmaker’s wages. If they were to agree to that, we would have to give numerous players a massive pay rise and we can’t afford that long-term.

Obviously, Ozil deserves more money but we won’t see him get anywhere near what Alexis is reportedly getting from United – close to £500kpw. At least no at Arsenal.

Hopefully, we can still get him to stay.
