Kevin Friend has been appointed referee for Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth so at least we have a slight chance of not being screwed over.

Friend has been in charge of 18 Arsenal matches in his career. We’ve won 13 of them, drawn three and only lost two.

The last time we suffered a defeat with the 46-year-old in charge was the League Cup against Southampton last season and before that it was when we lost 1-0 at home to Swansea in May 2015.

What’s more, we’ve also only picked up 25 yellow cards, which is almost half that of teams like Stoke, who have only had him as a referee 24 times.

Friend likes to let the match flow but isn’t afraid to put names in the book if players step out of line.

Arsenal have never received a red card with him in charge either.

This season, the Leicester-born official has refereed 18 matches already – 11 of which have been in the Premier League. One was the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Brighton at the Emirates back in October.

Although he’s still not trusted to referee big, Champions League games, he’s not terrible.

While the standard of officiating in the Premiership seems pretty terrible at the moment, we could definitely have someone worse than Friend in charge on Sunday.
