Marcus McGuane could be on his way to Barcelona, but Arsene Wenger is hoping to persuade him to stay, according to reports.

McGuane could soon be on his way out of the club as report claims he’ll be joining Barcelona’s B team in the Segunda Division.

The move has come out of the blue, not because McGuane isn’t talented, but because Barcelona rarely sign Arsenal’s youngsters.

The Mirror report that the midfielder turned down the chance to join Rangers, and that Arsene Wenger will try to convince him to stay at Arsenal.

The 18-year-old has been an important player for Arsenal’s youth sides and was given his first team début this season.

He came on as a late substitute in our 4-2 win over BATE Borisov during the Europa League group stage.

While he’s highly rated at the club, the chance to play first team football in the Spanish second division, with the potential to play for Barcelona’s first team, is one few would pass up.

Arsenal have signed a number of players from Barcelona’s youth teams down the years, including Cesc Fabregas, Fran Merida, Ignasi Miquel, Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral.

Perhaps this is just karma.
