Arsenal are reportedly keen on Hoffenheim midfielder, Karem Demirbay.

According to Newsmondo, Arsenal will battle Everton for Demirbay and are prepared to make a bid in the January transfer window.

How much the Gunners are willing to bid isn’t mentioned. However, Transfermarkt value the 24-year-old at just €12m (£10.7m) despite his contract not running out until June 2021.

The midfielder has impressed for Hoffenheim this season, scoring twice in 14 Bundesliga appearances.

Demirbay’s only been at Hoffenheim since 2016 after he signed from Hamburg. He’d been with the fellow German side for three years after moving from Borussia Dortmund’s youth team.

The 24-year-old also had loan spells at FC Kaiserslautern and Düsseldorf.

The midfielder represented Turkey at an u19, u20 and u21 level until 2013. However, in 2017, he received a call-up from both Turkey and Germany. He chose to play for the latter.

Demirbay is primarily an attacking midfielder, which Arsenal will need if Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil leave in January. However, he’s nowhere near the same level. He can also play as a central midfielder, so there is that option if the Gunners were to sign him.

Interestingly, he also played a couple of games as a striker while at Düsseldorf and scored three goals. However, these were the final matches of the season – I doubt he has any real future up front.
