After Arsenal’s 4-2 defeat away to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday, Gooners went in on three of the players who started: Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi.

Not even the FA Cup can save Arsenal this season after the Gunners were humiliated at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Dodgy refereeing decisions aside, the Gunners played terribly and Arsenal fans were baying for blood after the final whistle. Many resorted to bashing the players Arsene Wenger picked on social media and you can’t really blame them.

As Per Mertesacker said post-match, many of the players chosen to start against Forest were men who have been striving for more game time in the Premier League. And they didn’t show up or even look as if they were trying to prove themselves.

Theo is yet to make a single Premier League start, Welbz hasn’t played a full 90 minutes in the league since Liverpool away and Iwobi’s progress has gone rapidly downhill over the last year or so.

Although Wenger’s tactics are obviously to blame as well, since no matter what team he fields we seem to play just as badly, when he puts his faith in certain individuals, you expect them to turn up. You also expect them to at least look as if they care. And you expect them to be good enough to grind out a result against a mid-table Championship side.
