West Bromwich Albion are preparing to make Jonny Evans a final contract offer, with Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City all set to target the defender in January.

The Telegraph write that West Brom are willing to pay up to £100,000-a-week to keep the 29-year-old at the club, and are sticking to a asking price of around £35m before they let the Northern Ireland international go.

Evans’ contract expires at the end of next season.

West Brom are apparently preparing themselves for bids, despite the new contract offer, and as mentioned, Arsenal are expected to be involved.

Despite nine clean sheets in 18 matches, the Gunners have rarely looked completely solid at the back, and with Mustafi asking to leave in the summer, plus the German’s injury problems in the current campaign, he’s certainly not one that can be relied upon at present.

Although Nacho Monreal has generally performed pretty well in his new centre-back position, it’s still pretty telling that Arsenal’s wing-back from last season is now one of the two first-choice central defenders.

With Per Mertesacker retiring to take over the academy at the end of the season as well, the Gunners could do with another centre-back.

Whether a 29-year-old West Brom defender who couldn’t make it at Manchester United is an adequate replacement is another matter.

Particularly if that defender is going to cost over £30m.

Arsenal’s interest in Evans was confirmed by Tony Pulis before he was sacked.
