Arsene Wenger claims he’s still sure that Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal.

Ozil is yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Gunners. However, Wenger believes that the playmaker does want to stay in north London.

“I believe he wants to stay, he is not to be convinced [to sign a new contract],” said Wenger.

“I wouldn’t like to compare [Ozil and Sanchez].

“You want nobody to leave and you see where we stand on that. But at the moment, it’s very difficult.

“Until the end of the season we know what is, but after that I cannot tell you.”

This isn’t the first time the boss has insisted that either Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, or both want to stay at Arsenal despite having just six months left on their deals.

“I am convinced they love the club and love the team, but all the rest will be decided – when? I don’t really know,” said Wenger in November.

“I believe they love the club and want to stay, but there are other top clubs out there who offer good contracts as well.”

The Chilean is almost certainly leaving by the end of the season but rumours surrounding the German haven’t been nearly as black and white.

The 29-year-old firstly said he wanted to stay during the Gunners’ pre-season tour and there were reports that he had renewed his executive box at the Emirates. However, it was then claimed by the media that he no longer wanted to sign a new deal, that he was demanding £300k-per-week, and that he could even be reuniting with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Last week, it was reported that Ozil was once again about to sign an extension and Wenger confirmed that negotiations were still taking place. However, now it’s once again being said that he could be signing for United for £8m in January.

It really does feel as if we won’t know whether Ozil is staying at Arsenal or not until it’s officially announced.
