Arda Turan is set to join Besiktas in January, after Barcelona told him he could leave the club in the January transfer window.

Turkish outlet NTV Spor write that Turan wants to join the Super Lig club when the window opens. Besikas reportedly want to take the 30-year-old on loan until the end of the season. He’s now just waiting on the final decision of the two clubs.

Earlier this month, Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut posted a picture of the pair in London on Instagram. He then confirmed they were talking with teams from Spain, Italy and England ahead of a January move.

The media eported an Arsenal bid, as the Gunners plan for life without Mesut Özil. However, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu denied that any club had made an offer at the time.

Now, it looks like Arsenal may have missed their chance, although the rumours of their interest have never been particularly convincing in the first place.

Turan hasn’t played a single minute of competitive football this season. Not only that, but Barcelona have only selected the Turk for the squad once. The Gunners can’t afford to take risks on fitness and form, so I think there are plenty of stronger alternatives out there.
