Jack Wilshere stands a chance of starting for Arsenal against West Ham, but Chris Sutton doesn’t believe he’s better than what Arsenal already have.

Wilshere was named on the bench against the Saints, as he continues to wait for his first start in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal fans have expressed their disappointment every time Wilshere is left out, but according to Sutton, the midfielder isn’t better than their current options anyway.

“Who’s he going to play instead of?” Sutton asked on BT Sport. “He’s a great option absolutely, but would you put him instead of Özil or Sanchez? Not for me.”

The former Celtic striker has a point, considering Wilshere has mostly been playing in a more advanced role in the Europa League for the Gunners.

If he were to play that same role in the Premier League, either Mesut Özil or Alexis Sanchez would have to make way, and that doesn’t seem like the best swap for the team.

But fans want to see the playmaker introduced in a deeper role. If Arsenal opted for a three-man midfield, like against BATE Borisov, then Wilshere could play in the middle of the park.

Alternatively, some have suggested that either Granit Xhaka or Aaron Ramsey should be dropped for the 25-year-old. That might be a change forced upon Arsène Wenger anyway, as Ramsey picked up an injury towards the end of the Southampton match.

We’ll find out on if it’s Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny or Francis Coquelin who comes on for him.
