Lucas Perez has been starting beef with Deportivo La Coruna’s rival club Celta Vigo ahead of the Galician derby.

Lucas, who returned to his former club Deportivo on loan this term, recently aimed a dig at rivals Celta Vigo. The jibe’s timing is no coincidence as his side face Celta on Saturday evening.

The 29-year-old claims that the La Liga side can’t even fill their own stadium – Estadio Balaidos – which is why their mayor wants them to relocate.

“Even the city’s mayor wants to take the club out of the city,” said Lucas.

“They know they cannot fill the Balaidos and their patience has run out and now they want to relocate.

“The derby will be decided between individual battles across the pitch, the game will be close and I do not believe there is a favourite for this game.

“Form, whether for teams or individuals, are irrelevant in these games as it is about much more than that and the players must understand what this game means.”

In April 2017, it was reported that Celta Vigo would be relocating after a dispute over stadium ownership. However, Lucas is claiming that it’s actually because the city are sick of the Spanish team not being able to fill their 29,000 seats.

How’s Lucas getting on in Spain?

In the three matches that Lucas has featured in against Celta, he’s scored once, and his obvious dig seems like fighting talk. The Spaniard seems fired up ahead of the clash.

Overall, the forward isn’t having the most amazing loan spell at his former club. He’s scored five goals and provided three assists in 16 matches across all competitions.

Although this doesn’t sound that too bad, it is. Especially when you look at his old stats.

In 2015/16, he scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 appearances.
