Liverpool and Arsenal are both trying to sign £42m-rated PSV Eindhoven star Hirving Lozano in January, according to reports.

The Express write that both clubs will make a move for the forward in January. The 22-year-old has impressed for PSV after joining in the summer. He has 13 goals and seven assists in 20 appearances in all competition.

Liverpool reportedly want to sign the player as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Barcelona haven’t made any secrets about the fact they’ll return for the Brazilian in January. Meanwhile, Arsenal see the winger as a possible Alexis Sanchez replacement.

Manchester City are still interested in Sanchez, and could sign him within the next two windows, so the Gunners need to find someone who brings goals – Lozano could be that player.

The Mexican international wouldn’t be cheap, however. PSV brought him in on a six-year contract, so there’s no pressure on them to sell. Plus, Lozano’s scored four goals in his last five appearances internationally, so he’s proving he can do it for his country as well as at club level.

But if Arsenal sell Sanchez in January, that could help raise the funds. The Gunners also have the Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain money to reinvest, so a winter bid wouldn’t surprise me too much.
