Jurgen Klopp has been gushing about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain again and this time it’s about how much potential the 24-year-old has… where have we heard that before?

While the Ox was at Arsenal, all we heard for six years was how much potential the winger had and how great he was going to be for club in country in a couple of years. All he had to do was stay fit. Well, now he’s 24 and his manager is still saying it, at least this time it’s not Arsene Wenger.

“He is on a very good way. I like it, but he has so much potential it’s unbelievable, what he still not shows,” Klopp told Liverpool’s website.

“It’s only just the beginning and I really like it, I really like it. He’s like a wonderful package, I can only say.

“Hopefully he stays fit, that’s the most important thing. He can be much more decisive in a few moments. [He’s sometimes a] little bit too much of a midfielder instead of a striker – there are a lot of things he can improve, but I’m really happy about the status quo.”

The England international has made just five Premier League starts for Liverpool since joining them in a somewhat hilarious £40m deal over the summer. Hilarious because no one’s quite sure how the Gunners managed to swindle that much money out of a team who didn’t really need him.

The Ox has also only played five times in his preferred central position, which was said to be one of the main reasons he jumped ship.

Therefore, while Klopp’s right that the Ox currently looks as if he might have potential, it doesn’t really matter unless he fulfills it, which he didn’t manage to do during his six years at Arsenal.

Maybe he will fulfill his potential at Liverpool and him and Klopp will skip into the sunset holding hands. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
