Joel Campbell’s former club, Deportivo Saprissa, tried to lure the Costa Rica international back to the club, ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Campbell is still an Arsenal player officially, but he’s currently on loan with Real Betis.

However, he can’t stay fit enough to play for them at the moment.

The 25-year-old had a knee operation over the summer, and recovered from that to start for Betis in October. But before the end of the month, he sprained his ankle, and he’s still on the sidelines from that injury.

According to the media in Costa Rica, Deportivo Saprissa got in touch with the Spanish club to try and negotiate a transfer.

Laprensalibre write that Campbell is rehabilitating back in his home country at the moment.

The World Cup is coming up in the summer, and the forward needs minutes.

Real Betis might not be able to keep giving chances to an injured player, so Saprissa made an offer.

However, Los Verdiblancos clearly haven’t given up on the Arsenal man yet.

They rejected the advances of the club where Campbell spent his youth career and are reportedly counting on him to return and contribute positively to the team.

Hopefully that’s what happens, because right now, it’s starting to seem like another year wasted and he’s rapidly running out of those.
