Jack Wilshere says he’s spoken to Arsène Wenger about a new contract, and he expects them to come to an agreement.

Wilshere was speaking after Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

The England international played a key part in the victory, delivering the game-winning assist.

That performance made fans even more desperate to see him tied down to a new deal.

“I spoke to the boss and he says he’s going to speak to me,” the 25-year-old explained on Arsenal.com. “So we’ll see when he speaks to me and I’m sure it will be done.”

It’s good to hear the player has now had some contact about his contract. He’d previously said he’d only heard about recent developments through the media, like everyone else.

This is certainly more encouraging.

The comments also echo what the Arsenal manager said earlier this week.

Wenger told a press conference that he’d sit down with Wilshere and expects him to stay, as long as they can agree financial terms. He reiterated this after the game against Palace, although he has been moving the goalposts a little.

The midfielder also said he’s happy with the way he’s playing at the moment, explaining: “I was happy with my form last year and I’m probably better now. I feel better, I feel fitter and I’m getting better with each game. I’m enjoying my football. It’s another game and another three points, so I’m happy.”

Hopefully, Wilshere’s playing well should be good news all round.

Arsenal will make more of an effort to tie him down, and Wenger will happily select him.

Jack will increase his chances of being in the England team, and can stay with the club he loves.

With any luck, we’ll see the same again on Sunday, if he plays.
