Inter Milan kept a close eye on Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez while he played against Chelsea in the Champions League, and are reportedly looking to beat Arsenal to his signature.

Gimenez is out of contract in the summer and could be a target of several clubs, including Arsenal. However, it seems Inter Milan are looking to get ahead of the competition.

According to Corriere dello Sport, their sporting director, Piero Ausilio, was at Stamford Bridge to watch the Uruguayan in action against Chelsea.

Atletico are trying to tie him down to a new long-term contract, and have been giving him more first-team appearances this season to convince him to stay.

The 22-year-old has featured seven times in La Liga this campaign, adding a further four appearances in the Champions League.

Gimenez came into the Atletico Madrid first-team at a young age, but has been in and out in recent seasons. Diego Simeone seems to prefer Stefan Savic alongside Diego Godin instead.

The Inter and Arsenal-target has proven to be quite versatile, though, as he’s filled in at right-back and in the middle of the park.

The Gunners have been linked with him for some time, and could regard him as a potential replacement for the retiring Per Mertesacker.
