RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg has played down rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.

Forsberg was excellent for RB Leipzig last season, and was linked with a big move to Arsenal and Manchester United.

Those rumours have continued into this season and are set to go into overdrive now that the January transfer window is just weeks away.

Forsberg, though, has been keen to play down any rumours linking him with United or any other club.

Arsenal were linked during the summer transfer window, but Leipzig were not interested in selling one of their star players. The Bundesliga club’s decision not to sell annoyed Forsberg’s agent, Hasan Cetinkaya.

Cetinkaya accused Leipzig of “destroying Forsberg’s dreams” by blocking a move. “I and Emil have always accepted the club and the contracts with them,” Cetinkaya said in June, reported the Independent.

“When Emil went there, the ambition was to take the team to the Bundesliga and then the Champions League.

“He has been involved with them all the way and broke records in their shirt. Both me and Emil have spoken to the club about his ambition, his future and his dreams.

“They didn’t buy him for €15m, but for €3m and he signed a new contract and paid them back 10 times. They will have to live with the fact that they are destroying his dreams.”

Forsberg hasn’t been at his best this season, as he has just four goals and two assists in all competitions so far. At this rate, he won’t be matching the eight goals and 22 assists he got in the previous campaign.

Leipzig could be more open to a sale at the end of the season as a result. They were keen to keep hold of their best players for their debut campaign in the Champions League. They could face Arsenal in the Europa League should they fail to qualify for the knockout stages.
