Mathieu Debuchy’s Arsenal career has been resurrected after a tough two years, after previously looking down and out for the Gunners.

Debuchy is not only back playing for Arsenal, but also playing well. So well, in fact, that some Arsenal fans feel that current first choice right-back Hector Bellerin should be worried.

The Frenchman made his sixth appearance of the season against West Ham on Wednesday, and had a hand in the only goal of the game. It wasn’t his first good game this season, either.

He scored a rocket in the 6-0 win over BATE Borisov, and played well as a centre-back earlier in the Europa League.

The 32-year-old was one of the forgotten men at the club thanks to injuries. He mustered just eight appearances in the last two seasons.

Debuchy spent part of the 2015-16 season on loan at Bordeaux, but didn’t do enough to secure a permanent transfer. Since then, every attempt to sell him has been thwarted by one thing or another, be it a lack of interest or high wage demands.

He was having a tough time at the club, as he was confined to reserve team football, so his comeback has been rather heartening. If he keeps this up, he could well boot Bellerin out of the side.
