Petr Cech was left frustrated by his side’s inability to score against Manchester United, blaming “mistakes” at both ends of the pitch as the reason for Arsenal’s defeat.

After conceding two early goals, Cech was a spectator for most of the match as Arsenal peppered the United goal.

The Gunners could have been level before half-time, and although Alexandre Lacazette finally managed to find a way past David De Gea early in the second half, the visitors were able to restore their two-goal lead.

Cech was happy with the team’s response and how they dominated United, but has urged his teammates to be more clinical next time. “The game was decided at the start with our two mistakes and they scored,” he told Arsenal.com.

“We need to make sure that when we create chances in a big game we score and don’t make mistakes. There are not many times you play United and you dominate the whole game, having so many chances, so this is positive, but we are disappointed.

“We played against Huddersfield and we were on the other side of it (winning 5-0 last Wednesday). We had a spell where we had four shots and everything went in, this time it was the opposite.”

Arsenal were left ruing their early mistakes, as two bad giveaways in the opening ten minutes resulted in goals for Jose Mourinho’s side. It was always going to be tough to come back from that, but that didn’t stop the team from trying.

Unfortunately, they found De Gea in inspired form, and some of the finishing wasn’t as ruthless as it needed to be. It’s yet another lesson Arsenal have to learn when they play against the big teams.

The defeat leaves Arsenal in fifth in the Premier League table, seven points behind second-placed United, and a whopping 15 points behind Manchester City.
