Young Barcelona midfielder Oriol Busquets said he cried after Sol Campbell’s goal in the 2006 Champions League final.

The 18-year-old midfielder recently made his debut for the Barcelona first-team in the Copa del Rey. Reflecting on his journey so far, Busquets recalled how seeing Barca play Arsenal in the 2006 Champions League final was his first big memory.

“That game [the 2006 final] is my first Barca memory,” he said, as reported by the Express. “I cried after Arsenal’s goal.”

Sol Campbell had given 10-men Arsenal the lead with a towering header in the first-half. However, Barcelona fought back to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Samuel Eto’o and Juliano Belletti.

That final marked an era for Barcelona where they had several of the world’s greatest players. Deco, Ronaldinho, Ludivic Giuly, and Samuel Eto’o all started that final, while Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta were on the bench.

For Arsenal, it was the last time Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp featured in a Gunners shirt.

The closest Arsenal have come to winning the Champions League since was a semi-final appearance in 2009. Barcelona, meanwhile, have won it three more times, along with several league titles and even more world class players coming and going.
