Olivier Giroud could be a target for Besiktas if the Turkish club lose star forward Cenk Tosun in January.

Besiktas forward Tosun has been linked with a January move to Newcastle, which could prompt an attempt to sign Giroud.

According to AMKSpor, Besiktas are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, and fear that losing Tosun would weaken them too much.

Tosun has been their key player in the Champions League, scoring four times in the group stages. However, Giroud would be a fine replacement.

Besiktas feel they could tempt the Arsenal and France forward to the Vodafone Arena by offering him more first-team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer.

The Frenchman might consider it too, given he’s yet to start a Premier League game for Arsenal, instead coming off the bench 13 times.

Arsene Wenger has said he doesn’t want to sell anyone during the January transfer window, but admitted that a balance had to be struck between the needs of the team and the player.

Giroud pushing for a move might not be so unrealistic if he feels he isn’t getting enough of an opportunity at Arsenal to boost his hopes of making the France squad.
