When asked about which team can stop Manchester City this season, Arsene Wenger gave a pretty amusing response.

Following Arsenal’s emphatic 6-0 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday evening, Wenger was in fine form.

When asked about which team he thought would manage to stop City this season, the boss simply replied: Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar beat Pep Guardiola’s men 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with goals from Bernard and Ismaily Gonçalves dos Santos. It was the Blues’ first defeat of the tournament after they won 2-0 against the Ukrainian side at the Etihad back in September.

It was almost 2-0 to Shakhtar but Sergio Aguero netted a 92nd-minute penalty.

City have been one of the best teams in Europe this season. Not only have they now lost just once in the Champions League, they’re unbeaten in the Premiership. They’re currently eight points clear at the top of the table and although they’ve not looked hugely convincing as of late, they’ve still been grinding out the wins.

With the Manchester Derby this weekend, United could have a chance to end their rivals’ brilliant run once and for all.

Wenger certainly reckons they’re in for a chance after they left the Emirates with all three points last weekend.
