Arsenal are reportedly willing to waive their right to a sell-on clause as they bid to bring Oguzhan Özyakup back to the club.

The Gunners are ready to offer £11m for their former academy product, according to talkSPORT. Arsenal have a 30% sell-on clause in the 25-year-old’s contract, which means they get almost a third of the proceeds if Besiktas decide to sell.

So, offering £11m would actually only mean having to pay £7.7m, under normal circumstances. But talkSPORT claim the Gunners have been impressed with the way Özyakup has progressed in Turkey, and that they’ll therefore offer to ignore the clause and pay the full £11m to seal the deal.

Oguzhan Ozyakup

Oguzhan has captained Besiktas for the majority of the season, including during their impressive Champions League campaign, where they’ve already topped the group with a game left to play. They haven’t lost a single game in the competition so far either.

The midfielder has also built up an impressive international resume, playing 32 times for Turkey and even captaining them in their most recent match against Albania.

He’s at his best in possession, with defending not necessarily a strength. Personally, I can’t really see what Özyakup is bringing to really take the Gunners to the next level, so I’m not convinced by the rumours.

But with the Besiktas man’s contract running out next summer, we should know what’s next for him before long.
