Arsenal could sign Udinese defender Silvan Widmer as a replacement for Hector Bellerin, with the Spaniard linked with a move away from the Emirates.

Widmer has recently returned from a long injury lay-off, and has impressed as Udinese turned their form around this season.

According to TMW, Arsene Wenger and new Head of Football Relations Raul Sanllehi both rate Widmer highly, and would like to bring him in ahead of a potential Bellerin exit.

The report claims that Udinese are well aware of Arsenal’s interest as the club have already asked about the 24-year-old.

It also brings up a scenario where Bellerin is sold to Barcelona in the summer, but this appears to be an assumption rather than information.

Barcelona tried to sign Bellerin during the summer but were told in no uncertain terms by Arsenal that he wasn’t for sale.

After that, they spent big money to sign Nelson Semedo from Benfica, making it unlikely that they’ll return for the Arsenal defender.

With Mathieu Debuchy being 32 years of age, Arsenal have no real competition for the Spaniard. Widmer, who can play as a right-back or wing-back, could be just the player to provide that next season.
