With new reports claiming that Arsenal are set to land Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free next summer, we look at what we actually know.

Rumours have been circulating recently claiming that Leon Goretzka is looking for a move away from Schalke. Arsenal have been linked, as have Barcelona, who are said to be willing to pay £21m for the 22-year-old in January, Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus.

Schalke have allegedly offered the midfielder a whopping £206k-per-week deal in order to convince him to stay and while Goretzka is said to be aware of the interest he’s attracting from some of Europe’s top clubs, the general feeling in the media is that he won’t move until the summer.

According to the Sun, this means he’s moving to north London for free once the season comes to an end.

So, what do we actually know?

Goretzka has been at Schalke since 2013. In that time, he’s scored 14 league goals in 101 appearances. This season, he’s scored four goals in 11 appearances and seems to have really hit his stride.

However, his contract runs out in June and, just like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, it’s looking less and less likely that he’ll pen a new deal with the Bundesliga club.

At the moment, the 22-year-old is suffering from the re-occurrence of a lower leg injury. It’s unclear when he’ll be fit again.

With this in mind, if he is going to move, I find it unlikely that he’ll go in January. Although that’s just speculation on my part.

When it comes to which club he could be moving to, until we get any closer to the end of the season, your guess is as good as mine.
