Arsenal included seven academy players in first-team training on Monday, ahead of the Gunners’ League Cup quarter-final against West Ham United.

Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock, Josh Dasilva, Ben Sheaf, Matt Macey and Joao Virginia all joined up with the senior members of the squad, according to Jeorge Bird.

Chuba Akpom and Jeff Reine-Adelaide, who are technically part of the first-team nowadays, were also involved.

Of those players, Akpom, Reine-Adelaide and Sheaf all started against Derby County u23s on Friday, so they’re the least likely to be involved. Jeff was also taken off injured during that game.

Matt Macey also started, but considering he played in goal against Norwich City in the last round, he’s got a good chance of at least making the bench on Tuesday night.

Virginia, first-choice goalkeeper for the u18s, probably won’t be involved, as he’s only played one Premier League 2 match this season.

However, all the other academy players mentioned above were rested on Friday. Whilst that may just have been a precautionary measure in case a first-team player got injured ahead of Newcastle, it also could mean they’re set for involvement.

I’d guess the likes of Nelson and Willock are probably closest, considering they’ve been given starts for the first-team already this season.

Perhaps Nketiah could also be given a shot after his heroics in helping the Gunners reach this stage.

But it’s not completely out of the question for Sheaf or Dasilva to be given a chance, at least on the bench, considering they’ve also already been given senior debuts.
