Arsène Wenger says Jack Wilshere is on course to get back into the England squad, and that the midfielder can bring creativity to Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Wenger was asked about Wilshere in his pre-Tottenham press conference, and what the player has to do to get back in the England squad.

Wilshere was excluded from the latest round of international fixtures, even when player after player kept pulling out of the squad with injury.

Even Jack Cork, with no caps for his country, was called up ahead of Wilshere. Danny Drinkwater, who hasn’t started a single game for Chelsea in the league, also got the call from Southgate.

In my opinion, it should be clear to anyone who has watched all three of those players in action that Wilshere is miles ahead, in terms of what he can bring to the England team.

The Arsenal man had also been playing on a regular basis in the lead up to the break with five appearances in three weeks. So, for me, there’s no argument that Drinkwater and Cork deserved a call-up over Wilshere.

As Wenger says, the 25-year-old just has to keep impressing at club level and hope Southgate decides he wants to play his best players at some stage before next summer.
