Arsene Wenger has praised Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal for keeping a clean sheet against Burnley on Sunday.

Arsenal have yet to concede this season when Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi have played together. The German’s return to the Arsenal starting line-up has been timely, as Arsenal have now kept two consecutive clean sheets against tricky opponents.

Burnley tested the Gunners with direct play and plenty of crosses into the box, but the back three of Koscielny, Mustafi, and Monreal dealt with the threat very well.

Their efforts formed the foundation for a very useful victory, something Arsene Wenger acknowledged in his post-match press conference.

“After the win against Tottenham, it was important to go away from home, play a difficult game and win it – and that’s what we did,” Wenger said, reports Football.London. “For the belief of the team it’s a very important win.

“We kept a clean sheet. Burnley were really up for it. We won 1-0 and I want to congratulate my three centre-backs today, they did a remarkable job.”

Arsenal had struggled to create any meaningful chances, but with the defence doing a good job one goal was always going to be enough. That one goal came from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

The win lifted Arsenal into fourth above rivals Tottenham and Liverpool, who both drew on Saturday. They now have two home games against Huddersfield and Manchester United to come next week.

Arsenal are yet to lose at home this season, and will fancy their chances of getting two more wins if they can defend as well as they did against Burnley.
