Arsène Wenger says he completely trusts Alexandre Lacazette, despite the fact the club-record signing has been benched for most of this season’s big games.

For the most part, Lacazette has been starting in the Premier League, whilst Giroud starts in the League Cup and Europa League. However, when the big games come around, suddenly Lacazette is being dropped for Alexis Sanchez to play up front, and Alex Iwobi & Danny Welbeck to come in behind.

Wenger was asked about this at his press conference, to which he responded: “I have a big choice to make every time, he has played many games. Didn’t play at City, I trust him completely.”

Lacazette started in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea, but he was substituted early. Other than that, he was benched against Liverpool and Manchester City. In the City match, he managed to come on and score, and since then he’s scored two against Germany in a rare start for France.

Clearly when given opportunities in the big games for club and country, the former Lyon striker is able to deliver, so supporters are calling out for him to be involved against Tottenham at the weekend. There’s still the fear that Lacazette will once again be dropped for Alexis and Iwobi.

Iwobi also scored two goals over the international break, for Nigeria, but he doesn’t have six for Arsenal in the Premier League. Playing your top scorer in a big game would be the obvious move for most big-six managers, but it hasn’t been that way this season.

We’ll see if that changes at the weekend.
