It probably won’t surprise anyone to discover that Alexis Sanchez’s stats against Manchester City reflect exactly how poor his performance was.

For some reason, Wenger continues to start Alexis, despite the Chilean being off the boil this season and pushing for a move to Manchester City over the summer.

On Sunday, fans were left perplexed when the 28-year-old was given the nod up front in favour of Arsenal’s club record signing, Alexandre Lacazette. Perhaps Wenger thought, since Alexis wants to move to Pep Guardiola’s side, he would put in a good shift… almost like an audition…. He did not.

Alexis was dispossessed seven times, which is just one less than the rest of the Arsenal team.

The forward was also the only Gunner to get called offside. He side so three times.

He had one shot. It was off target.

Alexis took two corners, neither of which found their mark.

He completed just 27/36 passes and won one out of the three aerial duels he attempted.

It was a terrible performance from the Chilean and considering how much he’s been sulking this season after the very team we were playing on Sunday failed to make a solid bid for him in time, I’d guess it was no coincidence.

Alexis hasn’t been any good all season. 16 of his shots (out of 26) have been from outside the box, more players have been him one-on-one than he tackles, he’s been dispossessed a total of 19 times in the Premier League this season and had 25 unsuccessful touches.

He’s being highly unprofessional. His display against City wasn’t an accident, he’s capable of producing far more but he chose not to.
