Arsenal fans are starting to think that the club perhaps shouldn’t have sold one of their only out-and-out centre-backs over the summer.

When Arsenal sold Gabriel to Valencia, it took fans by surprise. While he wasn’t our best defender, he was one of the Gunners’ only out-and-out centre-backs, which is pretty handy when you play with a back three.

What’s more, we only signed him two years ago.

He was recovering from knee surgery at the time. The Brazilian was stretchered off during Arsenal’s last Premier League game of the 2016/17 season.

In fact, until a day or two before the move actually went ahead, no one had any clue that he would be off. So, when we heard he had moved to La Liga for £10m, we were convinced that there had to be a plan.

There was no plan.

Gabriel wasn’t replaced and instead Arsenal have ended up playing the likes of Francis Coquelin at centre-back against teams like Manchester City, which seems to be an issue that could have really easily been avoided.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old is loving life at Valencia. They’re currently second in La Liga after eight games and he’s featured in seven of them.

As you can imagine, Arsenal fans are still scratching their heads as to why we sold him in the first place.
