Supporters don’t want Arsenal to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, after reports that the English centre-forward could exit Anfield in January.

Phil Thompson told Sky Sports that Sturridge should leave if he wants to save his World Cup hopes, since he’s currently struggling to get into the Liverpool first-team. Arsenal have been linked with the striker in the past, but fans aren’t too keen to sign the 28-year-old.

The most popular option was to reject the idea of signing Sturridge entirely (43%), although the majority either voted yes, or yes if certain conditions were met (57%).

Most likely, Liverpool wouldn’t do Arsenal a cut-price deal for the striker, and only 33% voting “yes” unconditionally is a pretty poor endorsement of the deal.

In the past, fans seemed to be very much in favour of the transfer, so what’s changed?

Arsenal now have a large number of attacking options, and it’s in other areas of the pitch that the Gunners are spread more thinly.

Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez can all play up front, Eddie Nketiah is pushing for a first-team spot and Lucas Perez will be back from loan at the end of the season.

Many of those players are very good options, and it’s not clear how Sturridge would fit in. Also, Daniel’s had his injury problems for many years, and isn’t getting any younger. As a result of those fitness issues, he’s only just managed to pass 100 career goals.

Olivier Giroud already has that for Arsenal alone, so that tells you just how much time Sturridge has spent on the sidelines. With only five league goals since the start of the 2016/17 season, it’s not hard to see why Gunners supporters are so hesitant.
