Former Gunner Charlie Nicholas doesn’t believe that Arsene Wenger trusts Theo Walcott.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas suggested that Theo’s lack of starts recently has something to do with Wenger not having any trust in him.

“It is awkward for Theo Walcott,” said the pundit.

“I don’t think Arsene Wenger trusts him and he isn’t even getting off the bench in the Premier League now, so he really needs to consider his future.”

Although Theo has been given the nod five times in the Europa League and Carabao Cup combined, the 28-year-old is yet to make a Premier League start this season. And, as Nicholas says, I don’t think Wenger trusts the forward to consistently deliver in the big games.

Theo blows hot and cold – he always has – except now he’s getting less of a chance to prove himself. Credit where it’s due, he has scored three times in his five Europa League and Carabao Cup appearances. However, his performances overall have been lacking, which is probably why he’s not getting Premier League minutes despite his goal tally.

To be fair to Theo, when he has Alexis Sanchez in front of him in the Premier League pecking order, what chance does he really have?

Theo has under two years left on his current deal with Arsenal and it’s hard to see him extending that. He’s not played for England since November 2016 – a whole year ago – and he doesn’t look any closer to breaking back into Wenger’s first choice XI.
