Arsenal and Napoli are interested in Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the Atletico Madrid first-team and could soon try his luck elsewhere.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Bleacher Report, Napoli have made the Croatian one of their top targets, with Arsenal and Manchester City already tracking him.

Vrsaljko graduated from the Dinamo Zagreb academy before moving to Genoa in Serie A. He made the switch to Sassuolo in 2014, where he had the most impressive spell of his career.

His form for Sassuolo earned him a move to Atletico Madrid in 2016. However, he’s been far from a regular. Vrsaljko made 30 appearances for the Spanish club, while Juanfran continued to be first-choice for Diego Simeone. He could be a smart signing for someone.

Arsenal could certainly do with some competition for Hector Bellerin, in my opinion. At the moment, Reiss Nelson, a 17-year-old winger, is his only competition. Mathieu Debuchy, now 32, is playing more at centre-back these days.

Bellerin’s development has stagnated in recent seasons, and the introduction of an international player might spur him on to improve. Vrsaljko has 30 caps for Croatia so he would bring a lot of experience to the squad.
