Shkodran Mustafi believes Arsenal showed their character against Tottenham.

Fresh off his excellent performance in the 2-0 win over Spurs, Mustafi was in a fighting mood as he talked to the press after the game.

As always, Arsenal’s character and spirit were questioned going into the game. Mustafi, though, felt the performance and the result showed that Arsenal are more alive than people give them credit for.

“As always – Arsenal is dead. Arsenal is not coming back. It’s always the same. It’s about what the team is thinking and feeling,” he said, as reported by the Guardian.

“We keep saying we are always alive, we always believe in ourselves, we always try to give everything on the pitch. Obviously when it comes to games like this you have to show character. We showed great character when we had the ball (and) when we didn’t have it.”

Mustafi has been absent for weeks with a groin injury he picked up playing for Germany against Azerbaijan. Once he was fit again, he came straight back into the side and proved a lot of doubters wrong with his performance.

He scored a very impressive header to give Arsenal the lead, before spending the rest of the game throwing himself in front of shots and heading long balls away.

It was one of his best performances in an Arsenal shirt, and one that will go a long way towards convincing people he has what it takes to play for the club.

Arsenal and Mustafi must now prove that they can perform as well consistently. They face a very different challenge against Burnley next weekend, and will need another battling performance to get the win.
