Emma Mitchell has spoken about the importance of Arsenal winning the Continental Cup again after their 6-0 victory against Watford.

Mitchell insists that winning the Cup would be huge for the Gunners this season as the club should always be aiming to win trophies.

“We’re Arsenal, we always want to win,” said the 25-year-old. “We want to win every competition that we’re in and we’re in the next round for this one, so that’s important for us.”

Arsenal beat the Hornets 6-0 last Thursday with goals from Jodie Taylor, who’s moving to Melbourne City in January, Danielle Carter, Mitchell herself, Dominique Janssen and Daniëlle van de Donk.

The Gunners have now scored 19 goals in the Conti Cup this season after beating London Bees 7-0 in October and Millwall Lionesses 5-2 earlier this month. This means that despite our 2-1 defeat to Reading, we’re still top of Group One South’s table on goal difference.

Arsenal are the most successful club in the Conti Cup having won it four times. However, Manchester City are catching up after beating Birmingham City in extra time and winning it for the second time last year.

The Gunners now have a break until 10 December when they face Liverpool, which will be a good chance for them to regroup. With the sacking of Pedro Losa and introduction of new coach Joe Montemurro this month, the Women’s side has undergone a few changes in a short space of time. I’d be surprised he they didn’t need some time to let it all sink in.

Hopefully they can do this while away with their national sides.
