Premier League referee Mike Dean will officiate Saturday afternoon’s North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League also revealed Ian Hussin and Eddie Smart will be Dean’s two match assistants, while Kevin Friend will be fourth official.

The announcement hasn’t gone down too well among supporters, with Dean having a poor reputation for his headline-grabbing gaffe’s and performances in Arsenal games specifically.

The 49-year-old referee has taken charge of eight Premier League games this season, issuing 29 yellow cards and one red card.

Dean is known for being impulsive with borderline decisions which often change the course of a match, let alone his record when reffing Arsenal games. The Gunners have won just two of their last seven games Dean has officiated.

Manager Arsene Wenger has been vocal in his criticism for the 49-year-old, calling Dean “naïve” in September’s defeat to Chelsea, after Gabriel and Santi Cazorla were both sent off at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal supporters won’t be happy to hear Tottenham’s record in games officiated by Dean either, with the London outfit suffering only one defeat in their last 12 in all competitions.

Here’s hoping the game is decided by the players on the pitch, not the referee.
