Jack Wilshere could reportedly leave Arsenal in January despite the 25-year-old recently insisting that he wants to stay.

Jack has seven months left on his Arsenal contract and, as a result, we’re probably going to start hearing an increasing amount of reports about how much he wants to leave, where he’s going, why he hates Arsene Wenger etc etc.

The Metro, for example, is claiming that the 25-year-old wants to leave in January in order to get more playing time. The midfielder allegedly believes this could save his 2018 World Cup spot. However, just recently Jack gave an interview to Sky Sports in which he said he’s happy where he is and has a great relationship with the boss.

The Englishman, who was sidelined from April to August after fracturing his fibula while on loan at Bournemouth, will know that the only thing keeping him out of Gareth Southgate’s side is fitness. When he’s strung some appearances together, he’ll get picked. At the moment, he’s only featured twice for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

Jack’s been linked with the likes of Crystal Palace, West Brom and Real Betis. However, Palace boss Roy Hodgson insists that these rumours have come from no one but the player’s agent.

“Who has linked him? That’s what you need to find out, because it didn’t come from us,” said the former England manager.

“I will tell you who, his agent — because that’s where newspapers get their stories from.

“We have never mentioned his name. I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players, and Jack Wilshere’s name has never been mentioned in this room.

“I like him and I think he is a very good player. There may come a time at Crystal Palace where Jack Wilshere would be just the player we are looking for, but I can’t tell you that is the case at the moment.”

This would imply that while Jack wants to stay, his agent could be trying to put pressure on the Gunners to tie him down to a better deal. However, the idea that the fan favourite wants to leave in January to save his England space doesn’t make sense.
