Manchester City fans are absolutely spitting feathers after Arsene Wenger’s comments about Raheem Sterling.

City fans were livid after Wenger accused Sterling of diving for their side’s second goal – a penalty – on Sunday.

“I believe it was no penalty,” Wenger told BBC Sport. “We know that Sterling dives well, he does that very well.”

While the 22-year-old did go over pretty easily, it wasn’t exactly a ‘dive’ as there was contact.

A dive insinuates that the player has completely bamboozled the referee in an attempt to get their team a spot kick and thrown themselves to the floor without being so much as breathed on i.e. cheating. However, Nacho Monreal did make contact with Sterling. Therefore, no matter how easily the England international went down, we can’t actually complain too much.

Of course, Wenger disagreed and lashed out after the final whistle. His side simply aren’t as good as City’s and while Arsenal could have maybe stolen a point before Gabriel Jesus’ offside goal, the Gunners were never going to win.

I can’t help but feel that the boss directed the anger he felt at the situation in general at Sterling because he was the easy target.

Former striker Alan Shearer reckons that Wenger needs to apologise after his comments because they call Sterling’s integrity into question and it seems like City fans feel the same. Not that that’s a surprise.

As you can tell from these Tweets, fans of the Sky Blues are pretty angry with Le Professeur.
