Laurent Koscielny has lauded the team’s defensive efforts, and hopes Arsenal can continue such collective responsibility.

Arsenal have managed to keep back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League against tricky opposition. Part of that is down to the return of Shkodran Mustafi.

He and Koscielny have yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season when they’ve played together. However, Arsenal’s form is also down to the combined efforts of the team, something Koscielny has pointed out.

“It’s always important for a defender. It’s not just the back three or the back five, though,” Koscielny told Arsenal.com. “When we play like this, we defend together and help our team-mates.
“Like we did last week, it’s easier for everyone on the pitch when we work together and then afterwards we have the quality to get forward and create opportunities to score. We need to keep this in our heads and continue like this.”

Arsenal defended as a unit against Tottenham, first pressing them and forcing mistakes high up the pitch, and then shutting up shop in the second half. Against Burnley, the front-line helped shore up the midfield, while the back-line dealt with Burnley’s crosses.

The team knows that it defends a lot better when everyone does their bit, rather than leave it to just four or five players all the time.

Arsenal will be looking to keep up their excellent defensive record against Huddersfield on Wednesday and Manchester United on Saturday. A win against Huddersfield would make this November one of the most successful in recent memory.

A win over Manchester United, meanwhile, would see them move closer to second place in the table.
