Thierry Henry has emerged as a candidate for the vacant Wales job, according to reports.

The Wales job is now available after Chris Coleman decided to become the manager of Sunderland.

On the short-list of replacements is former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, according to the Mirror.

Henry is seen as an unorthodox choice, especially as most of the candidates, such as Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy, are Welsh.

However, the Welsh FA are looking for a coach who has gained their qualifications from the FAW’s pro-license scheme.

Henry gained his coaching badges through the Welsh FA.

He also has some experience of coaching at international level, as he’s currently the assistant manager to Roberto Martinez with Belgium.

Prior to that, he spent some time coaching Arsenal’s youth teams, but left the club due to a conflict between his coaching and his pundit career.

The Welsh FA will be taking their time in appointing a successor, as their next game isn’t until March.

Coleman had led Wales to unprecedented success.

Under his management, they qualified for the 2016 European Championships and reached the semi-finals, where they were knocked out by eventual winners Portugal.

Henry would have a lot to live up to should he end up being given the job.
